MOU with Osaka Univ.

MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) were exchanged between "iTHES Research Group in RIKEN" and "Theoretical Science Collaboration Project in Osaka Univ." in Oct.1, 2013.
The purpose of this MoU is to make an extensive effort to promote "Interdisciplinary Theoretical Science" by the joint colloquiums, seminars and workshops and by the exchange of researchers between the two organizations.
Present members of "Theoretical Science Collaboration Project in Osaka Univ." are
  • K. Hashimoto (particle physics, Director)
  • Y. Nambu (particle physics, 2008 Physics Nobel Prize)
  • Y. Hosoya (particle physics)
  • A. Hosaka (nuclear physics)

    Person of the Week

    Wataru Nishima
    Self-introduction
I am Wataru Nishima, working as an iTHES researcher from this April. Main field of my research is molecular dynamics (MD) and bioinformatics. Since MD was applied for the protein study in 1970s, MD has been used as a promising method to simulate the atomic level of dynamics in many biological systems. Current bottlenecks of MD simulations are often said as 1. Force filed and 2. Sampling. I am interested in the sampling problem. Although remarkable progress of computer technology has been largely contributed for the extension of accessible time scale of simulations, we are still struggling with the shortage of sampling to understand the most of biological phenomena. I would like to develop new algorithms used in MD to enhance the sampling.
As an iTHES member, I would like to enjoy interdisciplinary working circumstance. I am also interested in studies of other field such as system biology and physics. Actually, I was working on the fluid dynamics simulation in physics department up to my master degree. I am looking forward to interacting with you.
